Accessibility
Mega Menu User GuideMega Menu was meticulously redesigned from the ground up with accessibility as a top priority. This unwavering focus on empowering users of all backgrounds and abilities goes beyond merely meeting legal or moral obligations - it's about creating an inclusive experience that reduces disparities and empowers everyone to access information independently.
Leveraging the latest web browser advancements, Mega Menu features robust built-in support for keyboard navigation. Users can seamlessly navigate using the Tab, Enter/Return, Home, End, Esc, and Arrow keys, with a keen emphasis on in-focus elements to strive towards compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Standard. The attentive use of ARIA code attributes ensures adherence to the WAI-ARIA 1.3 Standard.
For an added layer of accessibility, the optional Keyboard Shortcuts feature enables "access key" shortcuts that further enhance keyboard-based navigation (view access key shortcuts by browser and operating system). These access keys can be automatically assigned or customized via a dedicated page attribute, with the caveat that each shortcut must be unique to function correctly. Visually, any access key that's part of the navigation menu item text will be underlined, making it easier for users to identify.
Accessibility permeates even the visual design, as the Modern skin options have been meticulously crafted to adhere to the contrast guidelines outlined in the WCAG 2.2 Standard. All font sizes and padding scale up (and down) to respect the web browser’s zoom level. All menu animations respect the “prefers-reduced-motion” browser flag, with motion-sensitive users in mind.
While Mega Menu's commitment to accessibility is a significant stride, true accessible-friendly website design extends far beyond just the primary navigation system. As a site builder or designer, it's paramount to carefully consider fonts, font sizes, colors, line heights, layouts, and interactive features - all with the goal of creating an experience that is accessible to the widest range of users possible.
Together, we can build a better web for all of humanity.
